The electronic edition of Pasaxon (People) Newspaper, the organ of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, and Pathet Lao newspaper of the Lao News Agency (KPL) have run articles emphasising that under the wise and strategic leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the Spring 1975 General Offensive and Uprising, culminating in the glorious victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign by the Vietnamese armed forces and people, was the result of a protracted resistance war against neocolonial imperialism to save the nation.

This was also one of the greatest victories and most glorious milestones in Vietnam’s thousands-year history of national construction and defence, ushering the country into a new era of independence, freedom, reunification, peace, and stable development.

An article in Pasaxon outlined five key factors behind Vietnam’s resounding victory, the complete liberation of the South and national reunification, including the visionary and sound leadership of the CPV and President Ho Chi Minh, coupled with an independent and democratic political and military strategy and adaptable tactics for each phase of the war.

The article also highlighted the unwavering spirit of the army and people nationwide; the unity, patriotic spirit, and shared will and action of the Vietnamese people; the steadfast resolve and fighting spirit of the Vietnam People’s Army under the strategic command of talented generals; and the invaluable support and solidarity from international friends.

In its article, the KPL also pointed to key lessons from the victory, saying it opened a new era of peace, reunification, and socialism building for Vietnam, laying the groundwork for national renewal, industrialisation, and modernisation.

Fifty years ago, it said, under the skillful and clear-sighted leadership of the CPV, the Spring 1975 General Offensive and Uprising, with the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign at its peak, was a glorious and historically significant victory of the armed forces and people of Vietnam.
