HCM City welcomes delegation of Lao localities
VOV.VN - Nguyen Van Nen, a member of the Politburo and secretary of Ho Chi Minh City's Party Committee, received visiting officials from the Lao capital of Vientiane and Champasak and Savannakhet provinces on August 29.
The Lao officials are currently on a visit to Ho Chi Minh City to attend a ceremony marking the 60th founding anniversary of joint diplomatic ties on September 5 and 45 years since the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation between the two countries on July 18.
The past six decades have seen both nations develop an extremely special and close relationship at multiple levels and across multiple spheres. Indeed, all agencies and organisations of the southern city have had direct or indirect ties with partners from Laos.
In line with this, the southern metropolis is elated at Laos’s various achievements, he noted. Nen went on to express his belief that under the clear-sighted leadership of the Laos People’s Revolutionary Party, Lao people will soon be able to surmount difficulties and successfully build an independent, self-reliant, and prosperous country with a growing stature in international and regional arenas.
The official went on to outline his hope that Ho Chi Minh City and Laotian localities will be able to maintain frequent mutual visits, promote communication to educate younger generations about traditional bilateral ties, and increase the sharing of experience in fields matching both sides’ mutual concerns.
On behalf of Laotian localities, leaders of Vientiane, Champasak, and Savannakhet appreciated the assistance given by the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, including Ho Chi Minh City, especially amid economic difficulties and the COVID-19 pandemic’s challenging impact.
They went on to hail Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City’s organisation of many activities to mark the Laos - Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022, along with their host’s opinions about the two countries’ special ties, including between Laotian localities and Ho Chi Minh City.
They outlined their belief that further bilateral co-operation will contribute to the two countries’ fast and sustainable development.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and Lao localities witnessed the signing of memoranda of understanding on co-operation between the HCM City Women’s Union and the women’s unions of Vientiane and Champasak.
