HCM City marks 23rd German Reunification Day
(VOV) - The ties of friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Germany have developed and flourished over the years.
HCM City’s Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association President Tran Thanh Long made the remarks at a meeting in the city on October 2 to mark the 23rd anniversary of German reunification.
Long said Germany remains Vietnam’s biggest European Union trade partner with two-way trade turnover reaching nearly US$6 billion in 2012.
Vietnam is committed to effectively using Germany’s official development assistance (ODA) capital in such priority fields as climate change adaptation, environment protection, vocational training and health care.
Long added that relations between HCM City and German localities have made significant progress in many cooperation areas. Germany is currently HCM City’s key trade and investment promotion market.
More than 50 German-invested projects worth more than US$160 million are operating effectively in Vietnam demonstrating fine trade relations between the two countries.
At the meeting, German Consul General Hans Dieter Stell expressed his hope that the cooperative ties between Germany and Vietnam will further develop in all fields, particularly in economics, culture and education.
The HCM City-based German House project will help promote exchanges between the two countries in the future, he added.
