Governor General of Australia to visit Vietnam

VOV.VN - Governor General of Australia Peter Cosgrove and his wife are due to make a State visit to Vietnam from May 23-26 on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations. 

The visit is made at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang. 

Vietnam and Australia have established a comprehensive partnership in 2009 and signed a declaration on strengthening bilateral comprehensive partnership in 2015.

Bilateral trade hit US$6.46 billion in 2017 and is expected to touch US$10 billion in 2020.

Australia ranked 14th among more than 200 Vietnam’s trade partners with total value of imports and exports at around US$6.45 billion for 2017, a year-on-year increase of 22.7%.

The two nations have signed the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and actively participated in negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

The Oceanic country has been a regular ODA provider of Vietnam across various fields such as infrastructure, poverty reduction, innovation, climate change response, gender equality and startup support.

Through decades, both countries have enjoyed  fruitful cooperation in multiple fields of politics-diplomacy, security-defence, science-technology and culture-education.
