Top leader calls for expedited trial of serious corruption cases of public concern

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam on July 7 urged relevant agencies to accelerate the investigation, prosecution, and trial of serious, complex corruption and misconduct cases that have drawn public attention, ensuring thorough and lawful resolution.

Chairing the 28th meeting of the Central Steering Committee for Prevention and Control of Corruption and Negative Phenomena, the leader said more efforts are needed to resolve most high-profile cases from the 13th Party Congress, and key cases include those related to Thuan An Group, Vietnam Cement Corporation, Nha Trang Airport project, and the hospital infrastructure investment cases.

He emphasised the need to complete the review and full institutionalisation of the Party’s guidelines and viewpoints on anti-corruption and anti-waste formulated during the 13th National Party Congress. Priority must be given to revising the Law on Anti-Corruption, the Law on Thrift Practice and Waste Prevention, and related laws. In addition, outdated regulations on economic-technical norms and standards must be updated to ensure consistency and feasibility.

According to him, authorities must clarify the root causes and propose specific solutions for delayed, stagnant, or inefficient projects that pose high risks of state asset loss and waste. These include major projects such as the second facilities of Bach Mai and Viet Duc hospitals, unconnected renewable energy projects, and the tidal flood control project in Ho Chi Minh City.

The General Secretary also stressed the importance of intensifying inspections, audits, and oversight of personnel appointments and the management of public finance and property, especially during the recent administrative restructuring and the implementation of the two-tier local government model.

In his view, after recent reorganisations, provincial steering committees must be streamlined and empowered. Local authorities are required to improve corruption prevention and control at the grassroots level, preventing reliance on central agencies and addressing delays and inefficiencies that burden citizens and businesses.

He called for robust adoption of digital tools and e-governance, saying the national database must be integrated with those of ministries and localities to enable real-time data-based inspection, supervision, and early detection of violations.

With clear direction and a determined approach, Party General Secretary To Lam emphasised that these measures must be implemented thoroughly and uniformly across all levels to produce stronger, more tangible results in the ongoing battle against corruption and waste.

The Steering Committee reported that the fight against corruption and waste in the first six months of the year saw notable improvements. The Party Central Committee, Politburo, and Secretariat issued over 100 directives on Party building and anti-corruption work. The government, ministries, and localities issued thousands of key legal documents, including the national strategy on anti-waste through 2035 and several policies to resolve bottlenecks in high-risk loss-making projects.

It was reported that in the past six months 230 Party organisations and 7,235 Party members were disciplined; 11 senior officials under Central Party Committee management were sanctioned, and inspection and audit agencies proposed financial recovery of VND9,533 billion and 617 hectares of land, and transferred 28 cases showing signs of criminal activity to investigative agencies.

At the meeting, the Committee also agreed to conclude oversight on 10 cases that had been resolved in accordance with the law. Meanwhile, four new criminal cases and two investigations were placed under the Committee's supervision due to signs of bribery, abuse of authority, document forgery, and other serious violations.
