PM appreciates women’s contributions to national development
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged women’s outstanding contributions to national development, especially in the fields of science and technology, while attending the the Kovalevskaia Award handover ceremony in Hanoi on March 8.

The ceremony, which was held to mark International Women’s Day (March 8), was attended by female Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, Labour Heroes, and female generals.
Kovalevskaia Award is Vietnam’s first prestigious national award that honours the dedication and contributions of female scientists to natural sciences. Since its establishment, the award has affirmed its prestige and influence, becoming a source of encouragement and motivation for female scientists in Vietnam. It has inspired many women to confidently pursue research, particularly in natural sciences.
Over the past 40 years (1985-2025), the Kovalevskaia Award has been presented to 22 collectives and 57 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to scientific research and technological applications, bringing significant benefits to various aspects of socio-economic life.
In 2024, the award was presented to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Tan from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi My Dung from Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
Both award recipients have made remarkable achievements in scientific research and practical applications, significantly contributing to their institutions and industries. Their research has been successfully commercialized, with technology transfers worth billions of VND to businesses in Vietnam.
The Prime Minister highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnam Women's Union and its branches at the grassroots-level for their innovative and creative approaches in launching and organizing various emulation movements. He acknowledged their practical activities in encouraging, supporting, and empowering women to excel in all aspects of life.
Through these initiatives, many outstanding role models have been discovered, honoured, and widely promoted, creating a positive ripple effect throughout the community, he noted/
In particular, the PM expressed his deep gratitude and high appreciation for the immense contributions and dedication of Vietnamese women. He emphasized that they overcome hardships and devote themselves wholeheartedly to their families, friends, communities, society, and the nation—all for the goal of building a better and more prosperous Vietnam.

The Government leader urged the Vietnam Women's Union to further enhance its role, by advising on policies that provide support and opportunities for Vietnamese women in general, and female scientists in particular. He emphasized the need to encourage their talents, intellect, and dedication to the advancement and development of women.
He also called on agencies, sectors, and localities to prioritize resources and introduce special policies for the training, nurturing, and development of high-quality female human resources. Special attention should be given to young female scientists, ethnic minority women, and those working in difficult areas, remote regions, and islands, especially in the digital era.
The PM stressed the importance of creating favourable conditions for women to access and apply science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in both production and daily life, particularly in scientific research and entrepreneurship.
He encouraged proactive international integration efforts to support women, while fostering connections and advocacy for preserving and promoting Vietnam’s cultural identity. He also called for timely recognition and celebration of outstanding female talents in various fields, to ensure that inspiring examples of Vietnamese women continue to be widely promoted across society.
