The NA Standing Committee discusses the tentative plan for the upcoming of the National Assembly, the year-end gathering.

Addressing the current NA Standing Committee’s meeting in Hanoi on July 14, Phuc revealed the upcoming session is expected to last for 18 days and will be equally divided into two parts.

The first part is set to take place in the online format from October 19 to October 28. Deputies are to debate 10 bills and question a number of Cabinet members over issues of voter concerns.

In the other half of the meeting, deputies are required to gather at the National Assembly building to debate four bills, review socio-economic developments in 2020 and set targets for 2021, and fix a timetable for the upcoming NA election in 2021.

According to NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, in-group discussions will be cut short to increase time for discussions and debates at plenary gatherings. The question time will last for 2.5 days as usual, and time should be arranged flexibly in line with foreign activities of the country’s Party and State leaders.

Vietnam is assuming the role of the Chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year.

The National Assembly holds two sessions in a year to review the country’s socio-economic development and discuss many other important issues. Last May, the legislative body also convened part of its gathering in the online format due to COVID-19.
