Meeting reviews 40 years of implementing open door policy in Hanoi
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and President To Lam chaired the fourth meeting of the National Steering Committee to review 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi (Renewal) process, also known as open door policy, in Hanoi on August 22.

The Communist Party of Vietnam launched the Renewal process in 1986, marking the start of the open door policy with the aim of developing a socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam and accelerating the country’s global integration. The party is scheduled to hold the 14th national congress in early 2026 which, among other things, will review the achievements and lessons learnt from implementing the policy for the four decades.
Addressing the meeting, party chief and President To Lam praised members of the steering committee for their efforts to prepare the review report to be submitted to the coming congress. He asked them to clarify shortcomings and their reasons as well as opportunities and challenges for Vietnam in the process of comprehensively accelerating the Renewal process.
Summarizing a number of theoretical and practical issues about the socialist-oriented reform process over the past 40 years in Vietnam is an important task that requires new perspectives and thinking in the context of a rapidly changing world, said the Party leader.
He asked members of the committee to complete the report before submitting it to the Politburo and the upcoming 10th plenum of the Party Central Committee for comments.
