Vietnam endeavours to promote parliamentary diplomacy
VOV.VN - National Assembly chairman Vuong Dinh Hue is beginning an official visit to Cambodia and attending the 43 General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Phnom Penh from November 19 to 22.

The trip is expected to promote the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia in general, and at the same time demonstrating the active role and responsibility of the National Assembly of Vietnam at multilateral parliamentary forums.
Over the past years, the political relations between the two countries have been consolidated and strengthened through the frequent exchange of high-level delegations. The two sides jointly organized many activities in 2022 during the Vietnam – Cambodia and Cambodia – Vietnam Friendship Year to celebrate 55 years of bilateral diplomacy.
The relations between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National Assembly of Cambodia and its Senate have developed both bilaterally and multilaterally. The recent successful Vietnam visits by National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin and Senate President Samdech Say Chhum are expected to contribute to promoting the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive and long-term sustainable cooperation between the two countries in general and between the two legislative bodies in particular.
The two sides have maintained visit exchanges to share experience in legislation, supervision and decision-making on issues of national paramount importance. At the same time, they have coordinated in monitoring their government, ministries, agencies, localities and businesses in implementing agreements signed between the two countries, so as to help ramp up their substantive and effective cooperation.
They have also worked closely together to share stances on regional and international issues of mutual concern at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums.
Hue’s visit to Cambodia is to further strengthen and improve the efficiency of bilateral cooperation in various fields such as economy, defense - security, science - technology, information and communication, development of energy resources and human resources training, said first vice chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly Cheam Yeap.
After the visit, the Vietnamese delegation of the National Assembly will attend the 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
Since becoming an official member of AIPA in September 1995, the National Assembly of Vietnam has actively participated and put forward initiatives to, together with other parliaments of member countries, strengthen AIPA’s central role and solidarity, foster intra-regional cooperation, and expand multifaceted relations with other parliaments of countries inside and outside the region, so as to increase the responsibility and voice of AIPA for peace, stability and development in the region.
Hue’s attendance at the AIPA-43 is to realize the foreign policy of enhancing multilateral diplomacy adopted at the 13th congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Vietnam vows to, together with other AIPA member parliaments, strengthen solidarity and centrality of ASEAN and bolster relations between AIPA and its partners, contributing to building the ASEAN community and promoting peace, cooperation and development in the region.
Hue is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the plenary session of the AIPA-43, emphasizing the importance of the meeting as well as solidarity, the central role of ASEAN in the current situation. He will affirm Vietnam’s commitment to contribute to building a resilient, inclusive and sustainable ASEAN community, and to enhancing the position of AIPA in ASEAN activities in general in the coming time.
