Vietnam and RoK to reinforce comprehensive strategic partnership framework
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam and President Yoon Suk-yeol of the Republic of Korea vowed to further cultivate and expand the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the RoK during their meeting in Vientiane, Laos, on October 10, on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits.

Chinh expressed his happiness about the success of the September 3, 2024 phone call between General Secretary and President To Lam of Vietnam and President Yoon Suk-yeol, laying a solid foundation for comprehensive and effective cooperation between Vietnam and the RoK in the future.
He also thanked the government and people of the RoK for providing Vietnam with US$2 million to help mitigate the consequences of Typhoon Yagi, viewing this as a symbol of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
The two sides agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and contacts; boost cooperation in defense and security; promote economic and trade cooperation, facilitate market access for their commodities; and expand cooperation into new and potential areas such as science - technology, innovation, and research and development.
Vietnam will continue to create favourable conditions for RoK investors to operate in the long term in the country, said Chinh.
He requested that the RoK continue to open its market to Vietnamese goods, especially agricultural products, and provide preferential loans for Vietnam to implement large-scale infrastructure projects such as railways and expressways.
He also welcomed the RoK’s initiative to train young talents for ASEAN countries and expressed the desire for the RoK to actively support Vietnam within the framework of this initiative.

Yoon, for his part, emphasized the importance of relations with Vietnam and expressed a desire to deepen cooperation between the two countries in all fields.
He requested that Vietnam facilitate Korean investors’ participation in infrastructure, urban development, energy, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Vietnam. He assured that the RoK would continue to facilitate market access for Vietnamese goods.
The President also appreciated Vietnam’s role as the coordinator of ASEAN-RoK relations in 2021-2024 and its active support for upgrading ASEAN-RoK relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The two sides agreed to continue close coordination at multilateral forums, contributing positively and responsibly to addressing common regional and global issues.
At the meeting, Yoon emphasized support for Vietnam and ASEAN’s viewpoints on the East Sea issue, as well as the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Meanwhile, Chinh affirmed that Vietnam consistently supports the peaceful process and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and it is ready to play a bridging role in promoting dialogue among the parties, contributing to peace, stability, and cooperation in the region.
On this occasion, Chinh also extended an invitation to RoK Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to make an official visit to Vietnam and attend the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in 2025.
