VOV.VN - The United States values its relationship with Vietnam and looks forward to enhancing cooperation with its partner across various sectors, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on July 11.

Meeting with the Vietnamese diplomat on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings, Rubio emphasised the US commitment to continuing support for Vietnam’s war legacy remediation efforts, viewing it as a symbol of mutual trust and progress in bilateral ties.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son called on the US to support Vietnam in boosting innovation, digital transformation, developing high-tech supply chains, and training high-quality human resources. He also appreciated the US’s goodwill and cooperation in assisting war legacy projects in Vietnam.
Both sides expressed their delight that the meeting took place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the normalisation of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States.
Reviewing the progress in bilateral ties, they affirmed that the relationship has made remarkable strides across various fields over the past three decades, with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework becoming increasingly substantive and effective.
The two sides agreed to increase high-level visit exchanges, effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms, and coordinate commemorative activities for the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Both parties agreed that economic cooperation remains a key pillar of the bilateral relationship. They committed to working toward a balanced, stable, harmonious, and sustainable economic, trade, and investment partnership, while jointly addressing obstacles in a way that serves the mutual interests of both countries.

Rubio reiterated the US support for ASEAN’s centrality and expressed a desire to strengthen cooperation under the ASEAN–US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
