Scott Morrison hails Australia-Vietnam relations

VOV.VN - Australia and Vietnam share a dynamic strategic partnership based on close economic, security and people-to-people exchanges, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said following his meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh in Scotland.

In a media release dated November 2, Morrison said the two countries also share commitments to trade and investment liberalization and economic connectivity.

He said the Australia-Vietnam relations enter a new chapter when the two countries signed the joint statement on climate change action and launched an Australia-Vietnam Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy.

“The joint statement reflects our nations’ results-oriented approach to COP26 and our focus on practical efforts to achieve climate targets, including areas for cooperation as we transition to a low emissions future,” Morrison said.

Both countries are committed to the rapid take-up of renewables, and to meeting ambitions for net-zero.

“We reaffirmed our common energy and climate challenges, which included the need to achieve climate targets while supporting energy security,” Morrison said.

According to the Australian PM, the Australia-Vietnam Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy “sets out a detailed roadmap to deliver our joint ambition to become top 10 trading partners and double two-way investment”.

The two PMs met on the sidelines of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference taking place in Glasgow, Scotland.
