Ruling parties of Vietnam and Cambodia strengthen cooperation

VOV.VN - The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) held a high-level meeting in Hanoi on February 18 co-chaired by CPV General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and CPP Chairman Hun Sen.

Both sides informed each other about the situation of each Party and country, the results of cooperation between the two parties and two countries, and directions for cooperation in the coming time. They also exchanged views about regional and international issues of mutual concern.

They affirmed the historical tradition of close solidarity and mutual assistance between Vietnam and Cambodia as well as between the three countries of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos is an invaluable asset, one of the most important factors, and the greatest source of strength for the cause of national liberation, defense, independence, construction and development of each country.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the ever-expanding cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples in various fields, including politics, economy, culture, sci-tech and people-to-people exchanges. They congratulated the important and comprehensive achievements that the people of the two countries have recorded in national construction and development.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized the strategic importance and significance of the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship for the security and development of each country, for peace, stability and development in the region and the wider world.

Echoing Trong’s view, CPP Chairman Hun Sen noted that along with consolidating and developing political relations, the two sides need to strengthen economic and trade cooperation to support national development of each country.

At the meeting, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the results of bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, culture, education, science - technology, defense - security, and proposed some specific directions of cooperation in the coming time.

Given the current global and regional context, the two sides agreed to strengthen solidarity, closely support each other, and continue to consider political bond of paramount importance to outline orientations for relations between the two Parties and two countries.

They agreed to consolidate defense – security pillars, increase international cooperation, and promote cooperation in economy, culture, education, and sci-tech by bringing into full play the potential and strengths of each country.

The two sides consented to step up cooperation between agencies of the two Parties, two legislatures, two governments and ministries, as well as between people’s organizations and localities.
