Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh begins Europe trip
VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh departed from Hanoi early on June 5 to begin a nine-day working trip to three European countries – France, Estonia, and Sweden.

During the trip, the Prime Minister will attend the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) in Nice, France.
This marks the first time a Vietnamese Prime Minister has attended the UN Ocean Conference. It is also the Prime Minister’s first visit to France after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2024. It is also the first visit by a Vietnamese Prime Minister to Sweden in six years; and the first-ever visit to Estonia by a Vietnamese leader since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992.
Following a series of dynamic high-level foreign affairs engagements by Party and State leaders, the European trip by the Prime Minister is a concrete step in implementing Vietnam’s open foreign policy and deep international integration.
Chinh’s participation in the third United Nations Ocean Conference contributes to implementing the Party Central Committee’s Resolution No. 36 on Vietnam’s sustainable marine economic development strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. It also strongly affirms the country’s commitment as a proactive and responsible member of the international community, emphasising multilateralism, the role of the United Nations, and the observance of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in addressing maritime and ocean issues.
Through the conference, Vietnam aims to promote the message of being an active, responsible country that is ready to foster cooperation and partnerships for a blue, peaceful, stable, sustainable, and prosperous ocean.
Bilaterally, the working trip will further deepen relations between Vietnam and France, Sweden, and Estonia. France is currently a comprehensive strategic partner, while Estonia and Sweden are long-standing friends of Vietnam with multifaceted cooperation.
In addition, it aims to enhance broader cooperation with the European Union (EU), reinforce Vietnam’s role as a bridge in multifaceted cooperation between the EU and ASEAN, and strengthen coordination on regional and global issues, thereby contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development regionally and globally.
