NA Vice Chairman meets with IPU Secretary General in Bahrain
VOV.VN - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man on March 13 received Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Secretary General Martin Chungong and witnessed the signing of document on the organization of the nine Global Conference on Young Parliamentarians in Hanoi.

Meeting with the IPU Secretary General, Man affirmed that the National Assembly of Vietnam actively engages in IPU activities to, together with other IPU member parliaments, discuss and put forward solutions to pressing global issues today, thereby contributing to consolidating peace, security and stability in the region and the wider world.
He highly appreciated the IPU Secretary General contributing to the development of the relations between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the IPU over the years. He also thanked the IPU Secretary General for supporting the National Assembly of Vietnam in hosting the ninth Global Conference on Young Parliamentarians in Hanoi in September 2023, and suggested that the IPU Secretariat work closely with the Vietnamese side to successfully organize this event.
IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong for his part highly valued the National Assembly of Vietnam’s capacity for organizing global events, including the IPU-132 Assembly in Hanoi in 2015. He noted with satisfaction the positive development of the relations between the IPU and the National Assembly of Vietnam over the years, and affirmed that the IPU is ready to support Vietnam in successfully organizing the ninth Global Conference on Young Parliamentarians and other global events in future.
The IPU Secretary General also emphasized that the signing of a document between the IPU Secretariat and the National Assembly of Vietnam on the organization of the ninth Global Conference on Young Parliamentarians as part of the IPU-146 Assembly demonstrates Vietnam’s strong commitment to joining in the IPU’s activities.
The document was earlier signed by Secretary General and Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Office Bui Van Cuong and IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong who represents the IPU Secretariat.
While attending the IPU-146 Assembly in Bahrain, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man met with President of the National Assembly of Angola Carolina Cerqueira, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia Nelly Butete Kashumba Mutti and President of the Consultative Council of Bahrain Ali Bin Saleh Al-Saleh.
At the meeting with the Angolan legislator, Man affirmed the National Assembly of Vietnam supports the strengthening of cooperation in various fields between Vietnam and Angola.
He noted that the potential for bilateral cooperation is very large and Angola is a promising economic partner for Vietnam in Africa. He suggested that the two sides speed up negotiations towards soon signing a number of cooperation documents including those on investment protection, double tax avoidance, security and civil aviation.
He also suggested that the two legislatures increase the exchange of high-level delegations, and strengthen supervision of the implementation of cooperation agreements signed by the two governments, while increasing experience sharing in legislation.
Cerqueira for her part suggested that the two sides foster bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, farm produce processing, education, health, industry and shipping. She also pushed for establishing a friendship parliamentary group between the two legislatures.
At a meeting with Zambian National Assembly Speaker Nelly Butete Kashumba Mutti, Man said the two countries should further promote cooperation in the fields of politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, health and education, affirming that Vietnam is willing to share its development experience with Zambia, especially agriculture.
Expressing Zambia’s desire to learn from Vietnam’s economic development experience, the Zambian legislator suggested that the two countries beef up cooperation in areas of their strength such as agriculture and tourism. She affirmed that she would transfer the Vietnamese proposal to the Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to consider visa exemption for Vietnamese people holding diplomatic and official passports.
On the same day, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man also received President of the Consultative Council of Bahrain Ali Bin Saleh Al-Saleh.
The Vietnamese delegation of the National Assembly (NA) led by NA Vice Tran Thanh Man is attending the IPU-146 Assembly in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, from March 11 to 15.
