Binh Thuan, Russia’s Kaluga province boost ties

Visiting Permanent Vice Secretary of the central Binh Thuan provincial Party Committee Huynh Thanh Canh introduced local strengths and potential via a video clip during a working session with Governor of Russia’s Kaluga province Anatoly Artamonov on April 22.

Canh said with a 192km coastline and favourable national conditions, including the famous Mui Ne beach, Binh Thuan advocates promoting resort and sport tourism.

Last year, Russian tourist arrivals to Binh Thuan surpassed 600,000, accounting for 25 percent of the total. The construction of an international airport capable of welcoming 2 million passengers each year in late 2019 will make it easier for Binh Thuan and Kaluga to boost bilateral tourism cooperation, he said.

According to him, Binh Thuan is strong in dragon fruits and seafood which have been shipped to 15 countries and territories worldwide such as the Republic of Korea, Japan and the European Union. However, its exports to Russia and Kaluga in particular remain modest.

Canh said the Binh Thuan authorities want to create a breakthrough in bilateral coordination via the visit.

The guest suggested strengthening bilateral links across trade, export, tourism; processing of farm produce, aquatic products and poultry meat; education and training; and use of technology in light industry, health care and processing.

Artamonov, for his part, said two-way trade between Kaluga and Vietnamese localities hiked four-fold last year, placing Vietnam at the 20th among the 120 countries investing in the province.

He committed all possible support to investors, especially projects underway at Kaluga special economic zone and special socio-economic development territories.

The host said one year ago, the first container vessel departed from Kaluga, travelled to Moscow and landed in Vietnam within 20 days, saving half of the time compared to conventional vessels.

Concluding the working session, Canh presented the draft cooperation agreement between Binh Thuan and Kaluga to the Governor.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Ngo Duc Manh expressed his hope that the deal could be signed during the upcoming Russia visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

During the stay, the Vietnamese delegation held working sessions with the Moscow legislation agency, the Vietnamese Business Association in Russia, and visited Vorsino industrial zone,
administrative centre of Kaluga special economic zone, Tekleor company majoring in anti-bacterial food processing, and F-trout company specialised in aquaculture and floriculture.
