Vietnam and Laos should develop their co-operation in all areas in the coming years to further enhance the special relationship between the two nations, said Prime Minister Phan Van Khai during a reception for visiting Lao Party General Secretary and President Choummali Saignason in Hanoi on June 19.
Mr Khai told his guest that the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos has contributed to preserving independence and political stability in the region and the rest of the world. He said Vietnam and Laos have made many achievements in recent years, particularly with high economic growth and improved living standards. The two countries have launched co-operation projects on hydro-electricity, road building and rubber plantation, bringing about benefits for both sides.
Mr Saignason reiterated that Vietnam-Laos relations are of vital significance to both countries. He thanked Vietnam for its effective co-operation in the past few years. Many co-operation projects have helped lift a number of cities and provinces in Laos out of their underdevelopment status.
He said he hopes that the two countries will continue to bring their future socio-economic co-operation to a new height.
