Lucky money in high demand ahead of Lunar New Year of Snake
VOV.VN - Banknotes featuring lucky money printed with images of snakes are in high demand as the Lunar New Year of the Snake is drawing near.
This year has seen demand greatly increase for the US$2 bank note printed with images of the snake, which is the zodiac animal for the 2025 Lunar New Year.
A social media influencer who has received orders since December 2024, says that the special banknotes sell for between VND120,000 - 150,000 each.
Many traders share that demand for new money peaks at the end of the lunar year and will last up to Lunar New Year’s Eve.
Weeks before the festive period, many people begin to prepare buying new or special banknotes which are believed to bring both luck and happiness for the new year.
These banknotes are considered to be lucky money. Giving away them is a traditional Lunar New Year custom through which Vietnamese people exchange best wishes with one another, hoping for a year of peace and good luck.
The snake image on the US$2 note plated with 24K gold is among the most favourite items this year.
Displaying a symbol of the zodiac during the lunar year is believed to bring good luck and happiness to the owner.
