Central Group rejects rumor that Chinese firms own Big C Vietnam
Central Group Vietnam has confirmed that Central Group is 100% owned by a Thai family and that other information about the owner of Big C Vietnam was fabricated.

According to this firm, many people questioned the true origin of the firm that had acquired Big C supermarket chain in Vietnam on many social networking sites in Vietnam.
Specifically, information on social networks said that the new legal representative of Big C Vietnam is a Thai General Director, who was hired by the Chinese side.
The three largest shareholders registered business in Hong Kong and live in China, but they still used the name of the Central Group of Thailand.
The Central Group Vietnam has confirmed that Central Group is 100% owned by a family of Thailand, and the information on social networks in recent times was fabricated.
Entering Vietnam in 2011, through cooperation with local partners such as Nguyen Kim, Lan Chi Mart, and most recently Zalora and Big C, the Central Group asserted that it was trying to contribute to sustainable development, boosting exports of Vietnam.
In late April 2016, this group officially became the owner of the Big C Vietnam supermarket chain worth more than US$1 billion.
Central Group was founded in 1947, from a small shop in Bangkok by Mr. Tiang Chirathivat’s family. This group is still owned by the family Chirathivat.
