Vietnam spends over US$123 million on rubber imports from Cambodia

VOV.VN - Vietnam imported 12 key commodities from Cambodia in January, with rubber leading in import turnover at US$123.7 million, up 25.3% year-on-year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The second largest imported item from the market was cashew nuts with US$6.96 million, up 44%, followed by garments and textiles, and footwear materials and accessories with US$5.05 million, up 32%, ores and other minerals with US$4.6 million, down 18% as well as fruit and vegetables with US$3.55 million, down 30%.

Statistics indicate that total import-export turnover between the two sides in January reached US$838 million, down 1.9% on-year. Of the figure, exports dropped by 9.3% to US$420 million, while imports rose by 6.7% to US$417 million.

Throughout the reviewed period, Vietnam shipped a total of 28 major items to Cambodia, including 14 items enduring a fall in value and 14 products posted a rise in value compared to the same period from last year.

The country’s main export items to this market were garments and textiles with turnover of US$78.6 million, up 4.9%; iron and steel with US$53 million, down 22%; garment, textile, and footwear materials and accessories with US$35 million, down 5%.

Vietnam also raked in US$16.3 million from exporting fertilizer to Cambodia, up 1.3%, iron and steel products with US$14.3 million, up 46%, along with paper and paper products with US$13.31 million, up 2.8%.

With regard to the agricultural and aquatic product group, Vietnam earned US$3.1 million from exporting seafood to the Cambodian market, up 48%; fruit and vegetables with US$2.1 million, up 51%; coffee with US$1.1 million, up 83%; and rice with US$2.1 million, down 47.8%.

VOV.VN - Vietnam raked in US$2.07 billion from the export of 1.25 million tonnes of rubber during the opening 11 months of the year, down 15.5% in volume but up 5.5% in value compared to the same period last year, according to the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
