Rising apartment rental and food prices fuel April CPI up again

VOV.VN - The consumer price index (CPI) in April rose by 0.07% compared to March, fueled by rising apartment rental and food prices amid growing consumer demand.

In April, among the commodities with price hikes, the group of commodities such as housing, electricity, water, fuels, and construction materials recorded the largest price increase of 0.62%, contributing 0.12% to the overall CPI rise.

Within this category, apartment rental rose by 0.57% due to the fact that soaring real estate prices have forced landlords to raise rents.

This is a key reason that drove up the CPI in April, while the group of food and catering services inched up by 0.12%.

On the other hand, factors that helped ease the CPI in April include a 1.05% drop in transport costs, along with a 0.15% decline in postal and telecommunications prices.

Therefore, the average CPI increase in the first four months of the year is 3.2% from last year.

The National Statistics Office (NSO) also noted that core inflation in April soared by 0.21% over the previous month and by 3.14% over the same period last year. On average, core inflation from January to April grew by 3.05% over the same period last year, lower than the CPI average of 3.2%.

In another development, the market saw 89,900 newly-established enterprises and firms return to operation during the four-month period, up 9.9% year on year.

The reviewed period also saw the entire country record 96,500 firms withdrawing from the market, up 12.2%.
