Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City exceed US$5.2 billion in first half
VOV.VN - Overseas remittances to Ho Chi Minh City reached an estimated US$5.23 billion in the first six months of 2025, up 22% year-on-year, according to statistics from the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV).
Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, deputy director of the SBV’s Region 2 Branch, said the modest increase reflects the continued stability of remittance flows to the southern metropolis.
In the first half of the year, remittances from Africa posted the highest growth rate, rising 130.8% compared to the same period in 2024.
Meanwhile, remittances from Europe rose by 16%, from the Americas by 11.9%, and from Oceania by 8.9%. Asia remained the largest source of remittances to Ho Chi Minh City, driven by substantial contributions from Vietnamese workers in Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Taiwan (China).
Ho Chi Minh City consistently receives the highest volume of remittances nationwide, accounting for more than half of the country’s total.
In the second quarter, other southern provinces and cities also recorded notable inflows. These included southern Ba Ria–Vung Tau and Binh Duong provinces (prior to their merger into Ho Chi Minh City), and southern Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc provinces (prior to their merger into Dong Nai), which together received more than US$127.5 million in remittances through credit institutions.
Of this amount, Ba Ria–Vung Tau received US$27.2 million. Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Binh Phuoc received US$53.2 million, US$43.2 million, and US$4.6 million, respectively.
