Deputy PM holds talks with OIF Secretary-General

VOV.VN - The Francophone countries are among Vietnam’s important partners towards further economic cooperation, apart from their traditional ties.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh made the statement while receiving Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) Mechaelle Jean, in Hanoi on October 12.

He said he hopes for more cooperation in trade with African countries, business start-up encouragement, French language teaching and UN peace keeping activities.

Both host and guest discussed priority activities for the Francophone community in the coming time and preparations for Vietnam’s delegation headed by President Tran Dai Quang to attend the 16th Francophone Summit in Madagascar this November.

During their talks, the Francophone Secretary General pledged more support for Vietnam’s international economic integration, women and youth issues, tax and financial reform.

Michaelle Jean affirmed the OIF's willingness to support Vietnam’s economic integration as well as assist the country in encouraging startups and connecting with African businesses.

Regarding the East Sea issue, she urged parties in the East Sea disputes to settle conflicts by peaceful means in line with international law.

After the talks, both leaders witnessed the singing of an agreement between the Vietnam Academy of Diplomacy and the OIF on French language training courses for Vietnamese diplomats and officials.
