Australia Day marked in HCM City
(VOV) -The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation (VUFO) held a January 21 ceremony in HCM City to celebrate the 226th Australia Day (Jan 26, 1788 – Jan 26, 2014).
Vietnam-Australia Friendship Association Chairman Luong Van Ly told the gathering bilateral ties linking the two countries have proliferated since agreeing to lift their relationship to “comprehensive strategic cooperation” in September 2009.
Australia has cooperated effectively with Vietnam in fields including development assistance, education and training, infrastructure upgrades, and agriculture and rural development.
Bilateral relations witnessed a fruitful 2013 in a range of significant events marking the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic ties—a slogan contest, a cultural journey, a Questacon scientific exhibition, a cooking contest for children, and a concert.
John McAnulty, Australian Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed Vietnam is one of Australia’s most important and valuable partners in the Asia-Pacific region. The two countries’ venerable economic relationship is sure to develop strongly into the future, he stated.
