Vietnamese silk painting fetches over EUR330,000 at French auction
VOV.VN - An artwork produced by local painter Tran Tan Loc sold for EUR338,000 at an event held by French auction house Aguttes.
Originally created back in 1932, 'Jeune Élégante Se Coiffant', literally A Woman Combing Hair, was painted by Loc in ink and color on silk, a particular technique taught at the Indochina School of Fine Arts circa 1930. The painting is presumed to be a portrait which shows his younger brother's wife.
The lower-left corner of the artwork features Loc’s signature and the date. The back of the painting also states "Au régal des yeux", which translates as ‘A feast for the eyes’.
The painting was first bought in Vietnam before 1950 and was brought to France around 1976.
Tran Tan Loc, who lived from 1906 to 1968, was a famous illustrator and advertising painter in Hanoi. He was invited to paint Indochina silver coins, the National Emblem of Vietnam, and other items. The artist worked at Hanoi Fine Arts Company until the end of his life.
