Lim festival shines spotlight on duet singing

VOV.VN - A large number of local people and tourists travelled to Tien Du district in the northern province of Bac Ninh early in the morning of February 17 to take part in the Lim festival. The event, recognised by UNESCO as a form of cultural heritage, honours Quan Ho (a style of duet singing about romance).

The annual Lim festival falls on the 12th and 13th days of the first lunar month, February 16 and 17 this year. |

A range of performances of love duet songs are put on by “lien anh” (brothers) and “lien chi” (sisters), who are ordinary people hailing from different villages. |

Love duet singing, which was included in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage of humanity list in September 2009, is considered an art form. It combines various elements, including music, lyrics, costumes, and a unique style of singing that closely reflects the relationship between the singers. |

The rich and diverse tunes as well as the entertaining lyrics of the songs portray the zest for life and distinctive cultural features of people from the region formerly called Kinh Bac. |
