Book on a culinary tale of Hanoians wins SEA award in China
VOV.VN - The Chinese edition of a Vietnamese book featuring a culinary tale of Hanoians in the past has been honoured with the 2025 Southeast Asia Book Award in China.

The award was announced on July 4 at a conference held for the 2025 China-ASEAN Book Influence Report, which took place in Nanning, Guangxi, as part of the 2025 China-ASEAN Book Culture Week.
The award was based on statistical data released by China, such as sales volume, reader feedback, and media evaluations.
Hanoians: Stories of Eating and Drinking in the Past, written by Vu The Long, takes readers back to the early 20th century, exploring how Hanoians ate, cooked, and creatively adapted cuisine during a time of cultural convergence. It reflects on how local people responded, whether they resisted, embraced, or assimilated, foreign culinary influences brought by East–West, North–South migrations and exchanges.
Blending personal memories of someone born and raised in Hanoi with meticulous research, including archaeological records, historical documents, and oral histories from elderly Hanoians, the book offers a rich, vibrant, and accessible portrait of Hanoi’s culinary culture.
It not only delivers valuable historical content but also captures the soul and depth of Hanoi’s food and identity, bringing to life the spirit of a century of transformation in the capital city.
The Chinese edition was published in November 2024 by Guangxi Science and Technology Publishing House, after being licensed and prepared by Chi Cultural JSC (Chibooks).
